A little more about us

Our Heritage In 1871, Annie P. Jennings lived in the end cottage on a terrace called Lifeless Moss. She and her mother turned the cottage into a beer house and the Drum and Monkey was born. In 1897 Henry Bell purchased the tavern and changed its name to The Moss Rose Tavern. Although the pub remained as The Moss Rose Tavern until 1923 it has always retained its nickname of The Drum and Monkey and is now the only remaining traditional pub in Alderley Edge. Modern Times Today, The Drum and Monkey is owned by the famous local brewer, Robinsons, based nearby in Stockport and is managed, on behalf of the tenant, by Nicci and her front of house team. We are a family friendly pub and welcome well-behaved dogs. There is a large patio area at the edge of the secluded beer garden - perfect for al fresco dining on sunny days. Inside, we have two separate dining areas seating 14/16 people in each but away from the main bar area - one of which has a cosy fireplace to warm you on winters evenings. Head Chef and his team will endeavour to give you a lovely dining experience. Larger parties can be easily accommodated by booking online or by phone. Occasionally, we host music events and will throw on a barbecue when the English weather allows! The Drum is close to Alderley Edge’s main shopping area and the train station is nearby, making it easily accessible to all our guests.
